Hazardous Materials Unit

The City of Knoxville Fire Department, Fire Station 18 is located at 610 N. Weisgarber Road on the west side of Knoxville.  Fire Station 18 houses 3 apparatus and a chief's vehicle, while being the home for 6 personnel a day who operate on a three platoon system.  Station 18 provides response in the areas of firefighting, vehicle rescue, Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Service, Hazardous Materials Response, and beyond. 

The City of Knoxville Fire Department is a ISO class 3 department that operates out of 18 stations.  The department serves the public through the use of 18 engine companies, 5 ladder companies, 2 specialty companies (Heavy Rescue and Hazardous-Materials), 5 Tankers, 2 Mini-pumpers (1  4x4 capable), 4 District Chiefs, as well as multiple accessory companies.  These companies provide a wide array of firefighting disciplines including:

  •     Structural and Wildland Firefighting

  •     Vehicle Rescue Operations

  •     Emergency Medical Services

  •     Hazardous Materials Operations

  •     Public Assist

  •     Pre-fire Planning

  •     Command Communications

  •     Scene Lighting

In addition to the firefighting companies that operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, the fire department provides additional services such as a smoke detector program, fire prevention inspections and codes enforcement, arson investigation, as well as public relations events such as fire education to schools, and neighborhoods.
